Testimonial: Gen X Women ARE Having the Best Sex
The headline is adapted from an article earlier this year in the New York Times magazine entitled “Why Gen X Women Are Having the Best Sex” and I’ll share why I agree…but it’s not all of us!
First, I identify as a Xennial, born at the tail end of Gen X, so I’m a blend. Not that cynical, but definitely skeptical. I have Millennial siblings, and Baby Boomer parents. I have written extensively about my recent sex adventures here, and a few notables: role play, anal sex, fantasy and so many kinds of great sex.
The author, Mireille Silcoff is in her 50s and divorced, which she credits with part of her shift — my own is the shift to polyamory, and I’ve got a different perspective, but there are a lot of alignments.
As a Canadian (Silcoff grew up in Montreal), it likely makes a difference in her culture of origin, just the French influence alone. American culture through the 80s was intensely Cold War and full of imperatives to behave and be under control, aligning with the zeitgeist of uniformity as insurance against fearful consequences.
She mentions date rapes and creepy professors, and fears about HIV, and I can relate to these things but more from a hearing about them and being cautioned constantly rather than personal experience. The latchkey kids / parental neglect is an interesting…
