Standard Sexuality Arcs vs The Kink Journey: I Wish Everyone Knew

Here’s a theme I’m interested in exploring, enough so that I made some graphics!

Basically, there are many women I meet who have awakened new aspects of themselves because of their willingness to risk much for pleasure and independence. I am included in this group and I wish I could tell more women about how much better this is. However, there are those who remain invested in the standard path…for a lot of reasons. Great conversation about the current cultural aspects of divorce here with Maggie Smith, poet and author of “You Could Make This Place Beautiful.”

Yes, you are free to argue that there is not one social path, but there are many micro-pressures along the way that encourage women to choose marriage to men and motherhood. There are other choices but they are not as lauded or status-enhancing…just ask those women who have tried those options.

Will the pattern be broken? It depends on lots of factors. Many people get stuck in the pattern, and give up trying to change things because it risks what they’ve built and that seems…unwise.

And many people stall right there in midlife. I know that I was for several years, trying to figure out what was wrong with me while my life looked good on the exterior. Then for several more years after I was brave enough…
